Our MCJC 2022 Outstanding Graduate Student, Nicolas Gutierrez III, won the prestigious Sally Casanova Pre-Doctoral Fellowship. Nicolas's Master's thesis is titled "Services, not sweeps: Community responses to homeless encampment sweeps in Los Angeles, CA.” Advisor: Dr. Megan Welsh Carroll.
Dr. AJ Kim was recently awarded a grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the Urban Institute on “Using Research to Build ‘Silo-busting’ Local Collaborations to Improve Immigrant Health Equity.” This is a three city site analysis, Des Moines, Philly, and Atlanta.
Drs. Roddrick Colvin and Megan Welsh Carroll were both appointed to 3-year terms as inaugural members of the newly-formed San Diego Metropolitan Transit System’s Security and Passenger Safety Community Advisory Group.
Dr. Madison Swayne was awarded a grant by the California Department of Toxic Substances Control to develop a Statewide Inventory of Brownfields in California.
Dr. AJ Kim will be Distinguished Visiting Professor with University at Buffalo for achievements in diversity, equity, and belonging for the academic year 23-24. The Department of Geography and Global Gender & Sexuality Studies will host Dr. Kim for the year.
Academic Advisor, Sam Beltran, organized PSFA’s successful participation in Explore SDSU for admitted students. Hundreds of new students and their supporters joined us to learn more about the School of Public Affairs.
Dr. Paul Kaplan’s co-authored new book, Crimesploitation Crime, Punishment, and Pleasure on Reality Television, was recently released with Stanford University Press.
