About The PARC
PARC History
The College of Professional Studies & Fine Arts (PSFA) Academic Resource Center (or PARC) opened on October 11, 2021 as a study and recharge space with one professional learning coach. Its grand opening was the realization of seven years of visioning and planning by PSFA Assistant Dean Lanie Lockwood and others.
In Spring 2022, the PARC offered peer tutoring and peer learning coaching for the first time and launched its virtual learning center on Discord.
In Fall 2022, the PARC added embedded tutoring, in which tutors partnered with professors in specific sections of PSFA courses to interact with students in-class and in tutoring appointments outside of class. The PARC’s embedded tutoring pilot was funded by a CSU Equity in Action Grant ($20K) awarded in May 2022. The pilot was successful and was institutionally funded in AY 2023-24 and 2024-25. We are currently seeking external funding to continue the program.
In January 2024, the PARC earned Level 1 International Tutor Training Program Certification through the College Reading & Learning Association (CRLA). In doing so, the PARC became the second CRLA certified tutoring program in San Diego State University history.
