Although an obsession with fashion is common for college students, many do not know its potential as a career. That was never the case for Maya AIZaben (‘20), though, who after graduating from SDSU, earned her masters in fashion studies from the legendary Parsons School of Design in New York City. However, AIZaben is grateful for the foundation she built during her time at SDSU.

“The best decision I've ever made was going to SDSU. Because it’s a public school, I was able to get so many different perspectives about life from so many different people. Even now, I’m still in contact with so many of the people I went to school with,” said AIZaben.

While at SDSU, she gained valuable experience in the journalism field working for the Daily Aztec and KCR. She also made her own blog where she posted weekly fashion related content.

“Fashion became my whole life. I had a twitter account where I would post everything fashion history and I was writing fashion reviews on my own time,” said AIZaben.

After spending time post-SDSU in the fashion writing industry, AIZaben felt as though she would benefit more by working independently. She went back to her JMS roots and formed a PR company: Mayaverse Marketing.

“I started my own PR and marketing agency and my clients are women who feel like their work is part of a larger than life purpose,” said AIZaben.

Mayaverse Marketing works to promote and manage women-owned businesses to help them achieve their business goals.

“I turned my writing style and my research into this brand that became me. My mission with this agency is to elevate divine women who see their work as part of their life's purpose and incorporating astrology, self work and divinity as unique guiding tools in this agency. Storytelling through advertisement and PR,” said AIZaben.

AIZaben encourages students to start writing as soon as possible.

“The best advice that I can give to myself and other journalists is to just start [writing], just do it. Just start writing somewhere,” said AIZaben.
