Outstanding Graduate Student: Elizabeth Ichikawa, School of Public Affairs Global Campus Program

Elizabeth Ichikawa has been selected as an Outstanding Graduate Student of the Global Campus program of Public Administration from the School of Public Affairs. Ichikawa is not only a hardworking student, but also a mother, and full-time employee. The dedication required to juggle these commitments has made Ichikawa into the strong and dependable person that she is. 

Ichikawa’s research centers on how implicit bias affects the court investigation process. As a supervising court investigator in Solano County, she works to protect the rights of vulnerable populations like children or the elderly. By combining her firsthand experience with her research, Ichikawa is uniquely positioned to offer a deeper understanding of implicit bias in the court system.

“I see gaps in the services government provides particularly with families working through mental health challenges. I know I have good insights into where and how individuals and families are struggling” said Ichikawa.

Being a student at SDSU has been more than just an educational experience for Ichikawa. During her studies, she has learned more about herself and what she needs to succeed in her professional and personal life.

“I think being a student is not just about learning class material, but figuring out who you are, moving out of your comfort zone, learning what you don't know, and meeting people who can give you new perspectives” Ichikawa said.

Ichikawa sees learning as a lifelong endeavor and encourages her friends, family, and classmates to never stop learning, growing, and challenging themselves.
