SDSU School of Art and Design presents the 25th Annual Student Award Exhibition
Students in the School of Art and Design gain valuable real-world experience as they showcase their work for the public at university galleries
The SDSU School of Art and Design will host the 25th Annual Student Award Exhibition in the Everett Gee Jackson and Flor y Canto Galleries through Thursday, March 9, 2023. The exhibition will feature art from upper-division undergraduate or MFA candidate students in a variety of modalities.
The first Student Award Exhibition was conceived in 1999 to recognize the accomplishments of students in the School of Art and Design, and to demonstrate the University’s support of artistic excellence and diversity in student artwork. Selected students are provided with the opportunity to have their work included in the University’s permanent collection, and to win a cash award.
Jennifer Galarza, the events coordinator for the School of Art and Design, expressed her belief as to why this annual show is so important for students.
“This show is a chance for students to showcase their work on campus at a real gallery show. It gives the students a professional development opportunity–a chance to learn about preparing their artwork for showing, as well as for sale.” Galarza said. “The work…speaks to the excellence of the faculty as well as the quality of the students in the art program here at SDSU.”
Featured art covers all mediums and is selected by a jury that is made up of School of Art and Design faculty and staff.
The Student Award Exhibition is located in the Everett Gee Jackson and Flor y Canto Galleries in the Art South Building on the 5th floor. The galleries are open Tuesdays through Thursdays from 12pm to 4pm. An awards ceremony will be held on Thursday, March 9th from 4pm to 5:30pm.
The exhibit is open to everyone and admission is free.
