Bio

Alanna Peebles is an assistant professor in the School of Journalism and Media Studies as well as in the School of Communication. Her core research interests revolve around how young children and adolescents engage with, learn from, and are emotionally impacted by media experiences. Her work has been published in journals such as Communication Research, Media Psychology, and Computers in Human Behavior.

Alanna grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area in California. She received her B.A. in psychology, summa cum laude, from the University of California-Santa Barbara and her M.A. and Ph.D. in communication arts from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Before coming to San Diego State University, she was a Research Manager at Common Sense Media, a non-profit focused on providing research-based reviews, reports, and curricula about young people's media use. Alanna draws inspiration for her research from her past work at Common Sense Media in addition to her work at an early childhood education center.
