Artist Tanya Aguiñiga Delivers Keynote Lecture at the School of Art and Design

The vibrant intersection of art and identity will take center stage as San Diego State University (SDSU) welcomes esteemed alumna and acclaimed artist Tanya Aguiñiga for a keynote lecture on Tuesday, April 23rd at 5:30 p.m.

Born in California and raised in Tijuana, Aguiñiga's work embodies a rich tapestry of cultural influences and personal narratives. From her formative years crossing the border daily for school,  to her current status as a pioneering figure in contemporary art and design, Aguiñiga's journey is a profound exploration of identity, community, and artistic expression.

Aguiñiga's portfolio spans an array of mediums, from sculpture and installations to performances, and beyond. Through her art, she seeks to amplify the voices and experiences of marginalized communities, shedding light on the often unseen stories of the transnational landscape.

The keynote lecture will take place at the Conrad Prebys Student Union Theatre, beginning at 5:30 p.m., followed by a reception in Aguiñiga's honor at the University Art Gallery. The reception coincides with the exhibition “The Imaginary Amazon,” located in the fourth-floor courtyard of the School of Art and Design.
