Outstanding Graduate Student: Adriana Villa, Mass Communication from the School of Journalism and Media Studies
Adriana Villa has been named the Outstanding Graduate Student in Mass Communication from the SDSU School of Journalism and Media Studies. For her thesis, Adriana is conducting market research on the Hispanic Generation Z population in San Diego, a project she hopes will provide valuable insights for public relations, advertising, and marketing professionals seeking to connect with this dynamic audience.
Adriana's journey has been marked by her ability to juggle multiple responsibilities while maintaining high standards. Reflecting on her experience balancing her demanding academic work with her job as an account coordinator at Nuffer, Smith, Tucker, she credits her success to her strong support system. “My nearest friends and family would say that I am communicative, empathetic, tenacious, and determined” she shared. "I have learned so much about the industry during my graduate school career, but one of the most important lessons I have learned is how important it is to work at places that are willing to invest in your future.”
Looking ahead, Adriana aspires to continue her career in the public relations industry, leveraging her research and experience to make a significant impact. She also offers sage advice to new students embarking on their academic journeys.
"I would suggest that they remember to have fun and make memories while getting their degree," she advised. "Going to school isn't just a time to grow academically, but it is also a time to grow personally. Making connections with people during this time is so important."
As she graduates, Adriana extends her well wishes to her peers. "I hope that the class of 2024 finds whatever in life may fulfill them. Whether that is professionally or personally, I hope that everyone finds their path to happiness."
