Outstanding Student: Alyssa Moreno, Dance
Mexican-American dancer Alyssa Moreno has been selected as the School of Music and Dance’s 2024 Outstanding Dance Student! Upon graduation, Moreno wants to help students explore their identities in college like she did during her time at San Diego State University.
“The care, commitment, and knowledge my professors shared with me in every class and conversation set an example of what I want to become,” she said.
While at SDSU, Moreno took on a research project called "Entremedio/ In-between.” During this project, Moreno took a “dive deep into who I am to my core as a human, a daughter, a student, and an artist.”
Moreno feels the support from those around her pushed her to success.
“Because of the support I received from my mentor, friends, family, and the community within the dance program, I overcame every challenging moment and felt confident to go to great lengths in my research and entire academic journey.”
Moreno has aspirations to become a teacher or professor and is grateful that she has been influenced by such great professors at SDSU.
“The care, commitment, and knowledge my professors shared with me in every class and conversation set an example of what I want to become,” she said.
Her exploration of her own identity through “Entremedio/ In-between” will prepare her to be an equally supportive and influential teacher.
“As a Mexican-American artist, I want to create a safe space within and with dance for everyone, especially those who experience life as I do, between cultures, languages, and identities,” Moreno said.
