SDSU Jazz Ensemble Performs with Special Guest Chris Potter
The acclaimed SDSU Jazz Ensemble I will perform with special guest Chris Potter on Thursday, April 14 at 5 p.m. in SDSU's Smith Recital Hall.
The outstanding group of student musicians will play dynamic and lively big band compositions, including music written by veteran composers like Bill Holman, Chick Corea, and Michael Mossman in addition to new music.
“We are very excited to be performing some of Chris Potter’s brand new music for big band. His compositions are creative with engaging melodies and innovative chord progressions, excellent vehicles for his rich tenor sax sound and modern improvisational style,” shares Interim Director of Jazz Studies Karl Soukup
World-renowned saxophonist Chris Potter will accompany the SDSU jazz musicians. Jazz publication DownBeat regards Potter as one of the best and most copied, jazz masters of today.
“It is a highlight of the student experience at SDSU to share the stage with artists like Chris Potter. It motivates them to perform at their highest level and it's inspirational,” says Soukup. “They will experience firsthand Mr. Potter’s artistry and share in the creation of a performance they are likely to remember their whole lives.”
Tickets to the SDSU Jazz Ensemble with Special Guest Chris Potter are on sale now for $10 for students and $15 for the general public. SDSU COVID protocols will be in place.
