Faculty Summer Achievements and Endeavors
This summer numerous faculty members continued their work outside of campus and in service of the community. The achievements, endeavors and opportunities in which the PSFA faculty participate, help to enrich the knowledge and experiences that are reciprocated in the classroom.
Professor Leads Students on Art Study in France
Arzu Ozkal, assistant professor for the School of Art + Design, led students on a study abroad program in Aix-en-Provence, France. The group spent three weeks focusing on cultural, social, and technological aspects of art and design. Their work includes photomontage, digital videos, drawings and paintings all around the mythologies impressions of Aix-en-Provence.
JMS Faculty Member Selected to PRSA College of Fellows
School of Journalism and Media Studies Associate Professor, Dr. Kaye Sweetser, will be one of 11 new members inducted into the Public Relations Society of America’s prestigious College of Fellows, an honorary organization within PRSA comprised of more than 350 senior practitioners and educators, each of whom has left a significant footprint on the public relations profession. She will be inducted on October 7 in Boston during PRSA’s International Conference.
Criminal Justice Professor Speaks at U.S. Special Operations Command Conference
Dr. Jeffrey McIllwain, associate professor for the School of Public Affairs, was one of four keynote speakers at the U.S. Special Operations Command Conference on transregional terrorism in Tampa Florida. McIllwain spoke on the topic of intersection of terrorism and organized crime from both historical and contemporary perspectives.
Professor Designs Costumes for LA Opera
Denitsa Bliznakova is a professional costume designer and professor at the School of Theatre, Television, and Film where she leads the MFA Design and Technology program. Bliznakova is currently designing a production of “Carmen” with the LA Opera. Each costume has a unique role in helping the characters come alive on stage and in creating powerful images that support the dramatic and tragic love story.
