Bio

Randi McKenzie received her master’s degree in Education with an emphasis in physical education from Bowling Green State University. Her undergraduate work, at Kent State University, was in health, physical education and psychology. Randi has taught and advised university students for over 39 years. For thirteen years, she was involved in developing the Faculty-Student Mentoring Program at San Diego State University. Under her direction, the program received national recognition (Noel-Levitz, Retention Excellence Award, 2001). She has presented at numerous national conferences and has received positive recognition for her work in the mentoring program. Randi serves in a joint position in academic and student affairs. Her work in the College includes serving as the advisor to the award-winning PSFA College Council, coordinating scholarships, assisting academic advisors, and handling all student affairs issues ranging from student advocacy to coordinating the College’s involvement in Explore SDSU. Randi is an involved faculty member and has served the university on numerous organizations and committees: (President’s Community Council on Diversity, the Provost’s Retention Council, University Senate, Student Grievance Committee, Student Affairs Committee, Mortar Board, faculty fellow in the residence halls and most recently as the advisor to SOS (Survivor Outreach and Support) and the PSFA Civil Core. (The Civil Core is the official service organization within the College.) Her hobbies include working with students, racquetball, painting, and theatre. She was a competitive fencer for 25 years and was ranked second in the nation in women’s sabre fencing. She taught sword fighting for the Old Globe Theatre in their MFA program and has performed in San Diego Community theatres. Randi also taught and coached archery and was the private instructor to the late governor of Baja California, Roberto de la Madrid.
