Friday, May 10, 2024

Andrew Tobia has been named Outstanding Undergraduate Student from the San Diego State University Army ROTC program. Not only did he excel academically, but his dedication and unwavering commitment to his field set him apart from his peers.

Throughout his academic journey, Tobia found himself influenced by the guidance and mentorship of Nensi Lakrori.

"Professor Lakrori's dedication to her students was truly remarkable," Tobia reflected. "She went above and beyond to ensure that we not only understood the material but also appreciated its real-world applications through practical examples."

Beyond the confines of the classroom, Tobia immersed himself in various campus activities and organizations. From his active participation in the ARMY ROTC program to his role at AZTEC Recreation and his involvement in intramural sports teams, Tobia exemplifies the spirit of leadership and service.

"My career goals are to become a United States Army Officer and to one day become a licensed professional engineer," he shared. "The ROTC program at SDSU will allow me to commission into the Army this May and the civil engineering program here has put me on the right path to work in the civil engineering industry and eventually earn my PE."

Reflecting on his internship at Wood Rodgers, a civil engineering firm specializing in land development, Tobia gained invaluable insights into the real-world applications of his studies.

"I learned a lot about the civil engineering industry and got to see how the concepts I was learning in school applied to the real world,” he said.

Tobia's nearest family and friends highlighted his problem-solving abilities, work ethic, and adaptability. Offering guidance to incoming freshmen, Tobia emphasized the importance of enjoying the college experience while not sweating the small stuff.

To the Graduating Class of 2024, Tobia wishes them “success in whatever they wish to continue after graduating.”
