Outstanding Student: Allison Busch, L. Robert Payne School of Hospitality & Tourism Management
Allison Busch has been chosen as the 2023 outstanding student of the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management.
A transfer student from community college, Busch made the most of her experience at SDSU.
“You should make the most of the four years and take all of those opportunities, whether that’s for work, school, with friends, and your social life. It may feel uncomfortable but it ultimately got me to the place I am at today and, as someone who transferred in, if you really put yourself out there you will make some lifetime friends,” says Busch.
An extremely hard worker, Busch received the American Hotel and Lodging scholarship and spent her time as a member of the Lodging Management Student Association, and challenging herself in the “She Has A Deal” competition during her time at SDSU.
While juggling those extracurriculars, Busch also worked as an intern for Marriott International for four years. She recently accepted an offer to work for Marriott post-graduation in the managerial development program with a revenue management discipline.
“Ever since I started working for Marriott International four years ago I realized that this was a company I would like to dedicate a career to,” Busch said. “It’s the biggest and best hotel company out there, and I want to continue to grow with a company that’s continuously growing.”
Busch thanks her student experience in the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management for helping her to network and gain valuable connections that would later help her when looking for a job.
Her goal, when she became 18, was to get into Marriott’s managerial development program. When the time came to do the interviews, tests, and other aspects of the process to get the job, she knew she was prepared and ready.
“I’ve learned that if you work hard and put your mind to something that you can achieve,” Busch said.
