Outstanding Graduate: Joshua Basilio, School of Military Science
Criminal justice major and Army ROTC Cadet Joshua Basilio has learned to adapt and manage his time well between taking classes and being an Army ROTC cadet throughout his four years at SDSU.
“Managing time for classes and being a Cadet in the Army ROTC was challenging since it took up most of my weekdays and weekends for the last four years. Although, I’ve learned to manage it pretty easily now, being able to manage such a full schedule every day has kept me adaptable and flexible to any change that could happen,” Basilio says.
Basilio aspires to become a Military Intelligence Officer in the U.S. Army and help those around the world with his newfound skills. His experience in the criminal justice major has helped prepare Basilio to fulfill his career goal.
“Being a criminal justice major has helped me learn how to problem solve in ways that revolve around being observant and collecting any necessary information to overall make a long-term and permanent solution.”
While at SDSU, Basilio was involved with an organization that furthered his professional goals.
“I did intern for an organization that needed a competent attention-to-detail secretary, to which I organized and proofread a field manual that was very lengthy. Doing this for the organization helped me come to realize how important it is to be up to date with current technologies in order to be efficient in getting products proofread and organized in a timely manner.”
As for his hopes for the 2021 graduating class, Basilio says, “I just hope everyone finds their calling and that if they don’t find it right away to not give up and to continue to push forward with their heads up! If anyone from my graduating class needs help or a shoulder to lean on, then I am open to lend an ear or shoulder.”
He also advises incoming freshmen to start strong. “Stay on top of your classes and make a routine that you can follow for a long time. It’ll make it easier for you in the future,” Basilio says. “Go Aztecs!”
