PSFA Motivation: Launch your Successful Semester Q+A (Gabriel Igtanloc)
As SDSU enters its third semester dictated by the pandemic, students’ struggle to stay motivated to learn is thematic. The College of Professional Studies and Fine Arts asked students from its schools for motivational ideas to launch a successful semester. Check out their insights throughout the month. Featured below is Gabriel Igtanloc (School of Theatre, Television, and Film senior).
Q1: What gets you through the day?
“I put everything on a schedule, and it keeps me on top of my responsibilities. I get a great feeling when I can get through everything.”
Q2: If you had a motivational toolkit, what would be your favorite tool?
“My favorite tool would be a planner. I have a strong sense of drive and accomplishment when I look at my planner at the end of the day with dashes through all my responsibilities.”
Q3: What are you grateful for?
“I am grateful to be working on my art, my health, and my breath. Throughout these troubling times, one must appreciate the small things.”
Q4: What piece of advice is your go-to?
“This comes from one of my favorite musicals, Sunday in the Park with George by Stephen Sondheim: “Anything you do; Let it come from you; Then it will be new; Give us more to see…” As an artist, it is a reminder that all I need to do is stay true to myself and hold myself to my own standards.”
Q5: How do you stay mentally healthy?
“As a dancer, I do yoga almost daily, to stay fit and build strength. Everytime I finish practice, I feel more grounded and centered to move on with my day.”
Q6: How do you stay resilient?
“I stay resilient by stepping away from what I am doing and letting everything go. When I am feeling overwhelmed or doubtful, I take a moment away from work and class to just breathe and disconnect. This moment can range between a few seconds to a few hours depending on how much time I need. You are the master of you. Do what you need to do to stay healthy, sane and safe.”
