Beyond JMS Breaks Boundaries
What does a Tiger Woods documentary, artificial intelligence, and brand identity all have in common? The answer lies in the debut seaon of Beyond JMS, but spoilers aside, they are all topics covered in the new webinar series from the School of Journalism and Media Studies.
Beyond JMS connects students to alumni, faculty, and professionals from around the world. Empowering the Aztec legacy, the webinar events provide a platform for professionals to share insights while highlighting success stories.
According to Dr. Temple Northup, the School of JMS director, the webinar series provides students with “tips from established change-makers, providing wisdom to elevate students’ understanding of the industry and excel their careers after graduation.”
Landing in the top 25% of journalism schools nationwide, the ranking serves as evidence of the School of JMS’s consistent success. Beyond JMS reaches outside the internal network of dedicated educators, bringing in a lineup of notable guests.
Armen Keteyian, JMS alumnus, was the first guest to use the platform to share his story. Keteyian described his path to becoming a New York Times bestselling author of the Tiger Woods biography that is now an HBO documentary.
Students recently heard from JMS faculty members, Dr. Yang Feng and Dr. Amy Schmitz Weiss, who spoke about artificial intelligence in the media. As storytellers themselves, learning about new forms of storytelling hit close to home for JMS students.
“JMS alumni range from admirals, agency founders, and American Ninja Warrior commentators. They write the reputation of our School as they move in their careers as storytellers,” said Northup.
Students, graduates, and lifelong learners are encouraged to join in and learn stories from beyond the classroom.
