Jamie Boyd Finds Purpose On and Off Stage
Jamie Diana Boyd was selected as the 2020 outstanding graduate in the School of Theatre, Television, and Film at San Diego State University. She intends to pursue a career as a performer and/or stage manager and is open to the many interesting avenues in this field.
Her experiences as a theatre arts major not only solidified her love for creating theatre, but also broadened her worldview to see all the contributions she can make in the diverse, intersecting avenues of the performing arts.
During her time at SDSU, Boyd was very involved in the school’s theatre productions. Being a part of the process of producing shows, whether large or small, gave her a sense of belonging and purpose, and a community to work with and learn from.
Boyd was awarded the middle-class scholarship for two semesters, as well as a scholarship from the School of Theatre, Television, and Film. These scholarships and recognitions instilled her with a sense of pride and determination in her hard work.
Throughout her studies, Boyd overcame obstacles with the help of fellow students, faculty, and staff, who came to value the level of effort and care she puts into every project she works on. Boyd believes these supporters exemplify the truth of “quality not quantity,” and felt embraced by this small, supportive community of artists. She discovered self-acceptance and practiced being true to herself, by not compromising her values. “As long as I am being who I am, I am never too far from where I want to be,” Boyd said.
Boyd’s hope for her graduating class is for everyone to find fulfillment in their lives in a sustainable way that makes them truly happy.
