Violist Dayne Sakazaki began his education at the School of Music and Dance thinking he wanted to be a music teacher. After spending four years as a Music Education major Sakazaki is graduating knowing that he definitely wants to be a music teacher.

Sakazaki worked in the Music Education Fellowship Program, where he got hands-on experience as a student-teacher in the San Diego Unified School District.

“I have learned so much about running an orchestra program, creating a classroom community, and so much more about the very busy and rewarding life of a teacher,” shares Sakazaki

Sakazaki has left a lasting impact on the musician community at SDSU by founding the Music Students Association (MuSA) and performing in the SDSU Symphony Orchestra.

Compassion and empathy are Sakazaki’s principal motivations in life. For the class of 2022, he has one wish.

“I hope that we use love to inspire people that we interact with, no matter our art, no matter our community.”

Sakazaki shares his insights with incoming SDSU freshmen.

“You really can accomplish just about anything if you set your mind to it and ask for support,” says Sakazaki. “Reach out to professors, find resources, and make friends…someone else will share your dream with you, and together you will accomplish so much”
