Giovanni Francesco Garcia is a transfer student majoring in public affairs. After transferring from Mesa College, Garcia entered SDSU with an overwhelming fear of failure due to past educational experiences.
Through guidance by Aztec alumni, Garcia received advice that encouraged him during his time at SDSU. He was reassured about his future success and the support he would receive while attending State.
“During my first semester at SDSU, I quickly learned that I would constantly be challenged, but that those challenges would not be mine alone to bear,” Garcia said. “This is when I was introduced to the SDSU culture.”
For Garcia, two common themes, “Aztecs Helping Aztecs” and “Leadership Starts Here,” stood out to him.
“As we graduate and many of us enter the workforce in positions where we will be interacting with others, especially those in the Public Administration program. My hope is that we grow this philosophy into “Aztecs Helping ALL,” Garcia said.
His experiences at SDSU have resahped his view of what it means to be a part of a community.
Inspired by faculty members in the School of Public Affairs, Garcia leaves this campus confident and prepared for life after commencement.
