San Diego State University’s School of Public Affairs and the City of San Diego come together to host the San Diego Community Leadership Summit on Friday, September 27.

The event is expected to welcome more than 500 community leaders to SDSU’s Montezuma Hall, including members from all 49 of the City of San Diego’s boards and commissions. This event will be the first time that all of these governing bodies have come together in this capacity.

The purpose of the event is to empower the volunteers who sit on these committees to be impactful community leaders.

Featuring TED Talk-style presentations, roundtable discussions, and speeches from Mayor Kevin Faulconer and SDSU President Dr. Adela de la Torre, the summit will be an engaging platform for community leaders to network and share ideas about civic leadership.

The School of Public Affairs worked closely with City’s Boards and Commissions Office Executive Director Dr. Joel Day to plan the summit.

“For many years, our School has been fortunate to have an effective partnership with the Executive Directors of the City of San Diego’s various Boards and Commissions,” said Patricia Frosio, Director of the School’s Institute for Innovative Governance.

The School of Public Affairs hopes that this collaboration with the City of San Diego will showcase the important role that SDSU plays in connecting the community.

“This event epitomizes the relevance of SDSU to the community, our role as education facilitators and human capital builders,” said Dr. Sherry Ryan, the Director of the School of Public Affairs.
