How did you decide on SDSU?
I decided to attend SDSU because it is an excellent school with a great engineering program, a diverse set of academic and extracurricular opportunities, and it has a beautiful campus with unbeatable weather. I also chose SDSU to join NROTC since San Diego offers many unique training opportunities due to its location.

What’s your favorite part about your field/major?
My favorite part about my major is being able to get hands-on in engineering clubs because they provide the opportunity to apply what we learn in class and turn it into reality. Because it can also be extremely difficult at times, so there is always an incredible sense of achievement when I finally get it right.

What does it take to be successful in your major?
In order to be successful, time management, curiosity, and some discipline is key. While it’s important to stay organized and keep up with your classes, it is equally important to allow yourself some free time to relax and do other things to avoid burning out. It is also important to think in terms of small victories and have a positive mindset to help keep you moving forward when things don’t turn out the way you expect them to. Realize that there are so many resources out there and people that want to help you succeed. Always seek out that help, never be afraid to ask questions, and stay persistent.

What do you hope to do in the future?
After graduation, I hope to be selected for Navy Flight School and become a Naval Aviator.

Any faculty to shout out and why?
I would like to recognize Professor Paulina Diaz-Montiel because she always did her best in teaching us Statics while making the subject interesting, and even enjoyable. It was clear to us that she was passionate about teaching her students and ensuring our success in the class while also giving us the tools to succeed in the future.

Favorite place to eat on campus, what do you get?
My favorite thing to eat on campus is a falafel rice bowl from the Halal Shack because it is not the most common thing to find here and reminds me of when I lived in the Middle East. However, nothing will be as good as my parents’ cooking that I bring from home.

Favorite place to visit in San Diego?
My favorite place to visit is the Cabrillo National Monument and its surrounding areas. It offers the best views in all of San Diego and has a lot of historical significance, with plenty to both see and do.
