Event Planning Student Finds Strength in Study Abroad Experience
Hospitality and Tourism Management major Susanna Wiggins spent her college career holding down multiple jobs and internships with local hotels as well as for the Coronado Historical Association, and the San Diego Gulls. Additionally, she is the recipient of the Hotel and Restaurant Foundation Scholarship offered through the L. Robert Payne School of Hospitality and Tourism Management.
After she graduates, she hopes to become an event planner specializing in nonprofit fundraisers or weddings.
Wiggins, who came to SDSU as a biology major, believes switching to HTM was among the best decisions of her life.
“I chose the HTM program because I have always had a love of working with people and being out with the public,” said Wiggins. “Because of this program I have become a much stronger and independent person, held multiple internships and developed my leadership skills. I can confidently say that I would not be the person I am today without the people and professors who have been there for me throughout my college career.”
Although initially reluctant to travel abroad, on a recent international experience in Costa Rica she learned a great many things about herself.
“Leaving my comfort zone gave me courage and proved to me that I am a strong and independent person and can conquer my fears,” said Wiggins. “I also had wonderful experiences in a beautiful country and came away with many new friends. It was the trip of a lifetime.”News List
