Collaboration in Design Education provides a comprehensive guide for design educators and practitioners who want to take a collaborative approach in their design practice and studio. Authors Marty Maxwell Lane and Rebecca Tegtmeyer introduce a wide range of case studies of collaborative graphic design practice and pedagogical methodologies, both face-to-face and remote, and between individuals and groups.

The SDSU case studies submitted by SDSU Associate Professor and Area Head of Graphic Design Arzu Ozkal and Associate Professor of Sculpture Richard Keely include:

SCULPTYPE, Arzu Ozkal and Richard Keely (San Diego State University, USA)

Pass the Pixel, Özlem Özkal (Özyegin University, Turkey), Canan Akoglu (Design School Kolding, Denmark), Ben Van Dyke (Michigan State University, USA) and Arzu Ozkal (San Diego State University, USA)

The authors address the basics of getting started, planning ahead, and reflecting on outcomes, as well as the issues that come up in collaborative work, for example, cross-cultural exchange, or managing roles within a diverse team. Editorial commentary runs throughout the chapter introductions and case studies, with informatics illustrating key concepts and expanded ‘call-out’ points in the margin. More complex case studies offer a ‘deep dive’ section to explain and share further details of the featured projects.
