ASSISTANT PROFESSOR (Tenure-Track): Interior Architecture
Tenure Track Assistant Professor Position in Interior Architecture.
San Diego State University seeks candidates for a tenure-track position within its Interior Architecture program. The successful applicant will partner with the program chair to develop a vision for the curriculum that enhances its status as a center of design research.
Faculty responsibilities typically include eighteen contact hours per week. The successful applicant will be required to teach undergraduate and graduate level courses in interior design, provide design and technological expertise, critical insight, and direct advanced undergraduate and graduate student research. Collaboration and coordination with part-time instructors is expected, as well as involvement in curriculum development. Faculty represent the School of Art and Design at community events, participate in service-oriented activities within the university community and the community-at-large, remain active in the profession and in appropriate professional organizations. Every faculty member is expected to assume a fair share of responsibility for non-classroom activities, in order to enhance the collegiality and effectiveness of the School, College, and University, and to promote the stature of SDSU in the community.

A terminal degree in interior design or closely related discipline is required. Qualified candidates will have college-level teaching experience (including the development and delivery of new courses), and be well versed in design theory, history, and criticism. Applicants should have the experience and skills necessary to deliver courses that draw upon evidence-based design, 2D/3D visualization, green building principles (LEED etc.) and fabrication technology. They will also be expected to develop a research agenda that advances the university’s focus on community engagement and inter-disciplinary collaboration. Preference will be given to candidates who show evidence of major built work, membership of and leadership in professional organizations, and involvement in community service projects.
RANK AND SALARY
Salary commensurate with experience.

ABOUT THE THE SCHOOL OF ART + DESIGN
The School of Art and Design has 18 full-time faculty members and is part of the College of Professional Studies and Fine Arts. Approximately 800 Art majors are currently enrolled in the School's undergraduate and graduate programs. The School offers the Bachelor's degree in Art with emphases in studio arts and design; the Master's and Master of Fine Arts degrees in Art with concentrations in studio arts and design; as well as Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Art History.
