ASSISTANT PROFESSOR (Tenure-Track): HOSPITALITY AND TOURISM MANAGEMENT
We are seeking a passionate teacher-scholar to join our faculty at the assistant professor level for a Fall 2018 appointment. Ideal candidates embrace a leadership development mindset, are energized by engaging students in integrative learning and high-impact experiences, demonstrate enthusiasm for a research agenda aligned with the experience economy context, and a genuine desire to get involved on and off-campus.
Initial teaching assignments will focus on core undergraduate classes in the service-leadership course sequence to include existing courses such as HTM 201 Introduction to Hospitality and Tourism Management, HTM 301 Service Leadership Development, and HTM 491 Leadership and Self Development. These core courses involve increasingly complex experiential learning projects, aligned with program level learning outcomes, and a research driven competency model of hospitality leadership. We seek a faculty member who is driven to capitalize on the ample opportunities to contribute novel, and meaningful learning activities, inside and outside the classroom. Preference will be given to those who can demonstrate an ability to create these innovative, high impact, experiential learning activities, and contribute above and beyond the classroom as described.
The position will also have responsibility for consistent productivity in scholarly research, and high quality peer-reviewed publications are required for promotion. Research interests with relevance to the broad context of leading in the experience economy context will be privileged, because they align with program learning outcomes and provide opportunities to collaborate with current faculty.
The pursuit of personal passions is embedded in our School culture, and the faculty, staff, and students build strong community and industry partnerships. This position is well suited for a faculty member with genuine interest in mentoring students, and engaging with community and industry partners as part of the university service requirement. Practical professional experience is highly desired in an area of hospitality management, guest service management or any field focused on providing memorable guest experiences.
Earned doctorate in hospitality management, business administration, organizational psychology, human resource development or related field is required. Teaching experience at the university level including demonstrated innovation in crafting high impact student experiences, demonstrated professional growth including research and publications, and demonstrated leadership capacities transferable to the hospitality, recreation and tourism industry are required. Candidates who are able to illustrate an ability and drive toward student mentoring and leader development, particularly with under-represented communities is strongly desired. In addition, industry experience is strongly preferred in an area of hospitality management, guest service management or any field focused on providing memorable guest experiences.

The L. Robert Payne School of Hospitality and Tourism Management in the College of Professional Studies and Fine Arts is an academic unit encompassing two bachelor’s degrees: Hospitality and Tourism Management and Recreation and Tourism Management; a master’s in hospitality & tourism management and a minor in Recreation and Tourism Management.
