The San Diego State University Downtown Art Gallery serves an important connection to the San Diego community. Ideally located in the heart of the city, with its pulse focused squarely on the San Diego art community, the Gallery attracts visitors from around the globe. Its strategic location in the hub of activity among a prestigious community of luxury high-rise condominiums, restaurants, hotels, parks and entertainment venues, holds the promise of being a strong component in the North Embarcadero Visionary Plan.
The Gallery serves a significant role as a workshop for students and gives them hands-on experience with the organization of exhibitions, related programming and planning. It offers an important venue for exciting and synergistic collaborations of various interdisciplinary art forms including music, dance and visual art in many mediums. The Gallery is directed by professional staff and operated by students involved in SDSU’s Center for Museum Studies, as well as Art, Design and Art History degree programs.
