Michael Turner (Radio, Television & Film, '70) is president of Bearsworth Communications, Inc., a Los Angeles-based public relations and marketing firm.  The agency was named An Outstanding Small Business by the United Chamber of Commerce and nominated as An Outstanding Small Business by The San Fernando Valley Business Journal.

Joan DeLong Hart (Physical Education-Athletic Training, '80) works in the Dallas, Texas, area for the newly formed Presbyterian Sports Network, providing outreach athletic training services to schools and recreational sports teams.  She was recently honored by the National Athletic Trainers’ Association for 25 years of membership.

Stuart Harris (Recreation, '82) received his M.S. in National Resource Strategy from the National Defense University in Washington, D.C.  He was promoted to Colonel in the U.S. Marines in August 2004, and recently returned from a combat tour in Iraq as commander of the 2nd Assault Amphibian Battalion, 2nd Marine Division.  His new position is with the U.S. Department of State, where he runs the Humanitarian Land Mine Removal Program.

Guillermo J. Noffal (Physical Education, B.A. '88, M.A., '92) has been granted tenure and promoted to associate professor in the department of kinesiology at Cal State Fullerton.

Firefighter Piper Denlinger ('89 Physical Education) is leading a national effort to improve children's health. See the article in the San Diego Union-Tribune.


Jessica Cooper ('97, Vocal Performance) performs in Mozart's Coronation Mass and Davidde Penitente in April at the Boston Cecelia, one of America's oldest performing arts organizations. She recently earned her master's degrees in voice and opera from the New England Conservatory and has made several appearances with the Boston Cecilia as the soprano soloist, appearing in Handel's Samson, Dixit Dominus, the Mozart Requiem, and other works.

Jennifer Fletcher, ('81 Physical Education) serves as company manager/artistic manager for the Fort Worth Opera in Texas.

Jeffrey Eckstein (M.A. Music-Conducting, '02) was guest conductor of the Nutcracker in December with the Austin, Tex., ballet, an annual honor for the accomplished maestro who also has conducted musicals both on and off Broadway.

Giavanna Kersulis, (B.A. Music, '02), a member of the Youth Artist Program with the Virginia Opera, has toured and apeared in more than 80 performances of Hansel and Gretel. In April she will be a cast member in the opera Faust and in May she will perform with the Pine Mountain Music Festival in La Cerentola in Houghton, Mich.

Diego Carro (Television, Film & New Media, M.A. '03) works with Spanish-language Telemundo in Los Angeles and New York City, and recently received an Emmy for Outstanding News Writer in the Los Angeles market.  This is the second consecutive year he has been honored with this prestigious award from the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.  Diego has also received a national award from the National Association of Hispanic Journalists in Washington, D.C. for his report on the exploitation of undocumented immigrants in Southern California’s car wash industry.
