Jack L. Williams ~ Distinguished Alumni Award
Jack Williams ('72, Speech Communication) is the recipient
of the 2006 Distinguished Alumni Award. Mr. Williams recently
retired as President and COO of Royal Caribbean International and
Celebrity Cruises to pursue his philanthropic and humanitarian efforts.
His work has benefited such organizations as the Homeland Security
Advisory Council, the Andre Agassi Foundation, and the Cystic Fibrosis
Foundation from which he received the CFF's highest honor, the "Breath
of Life" Award.
SDSU MONTH RETURNS IN MARCH 2006
The fourth annual SDSU Month celebration honoring San Diego State
University’s “Minds that Move the World” is returning
in March 2006.
This year’s celebration will emphasize SDSU’s growing
international impact through the efforts of students, faculty and
alumni who are studying, researching or working abroad. Several
of these remarkable individuals will be featured in “Aztec
Dispatches,” a weblog site on www.sdsumonth.com
in which they will provide a virtual window to their world through
regular updates to their online journals.
SDSU Month also features dozens of arts, academic and athletic events,
including the Explore SDSU open house Saturday, April 8. This
year’s open house will feature different “villages”
around campus with free exhibits, tours, a children’s play
area, live entertainment and more.
There will also be special offers from local businesses and organizations.
Several of these will help raise funds for the SDSU Month Scholarship
Challenge, which helps provide financial assistance to some of SDSU’s
outstanding students.
SDSU Month sponsors and media partners include Associated Students,
Aztec Shops, Cox Communications, The Daily Aztec, KPBS,
NBC 7/39, Rubio’s Fresh Mexican Grill, San Diego Magazine,
The San Diego Union-Tribune, the SDSU Alumni Association,
the SDSU President’s Leadership Fund, the SDSU Research Foundation,
Time Warner Cable, Univision San Diego, Univision Radio and U.S.
Bank.
