Associate Dean
Dr. Kathryn LaMaster is Associate Dean of San Diego State University's College of Professional Studies and Fine Arts. In this capacity she represents the Dean of the College as needed and assumes responsibility for the daily administration of this diverse College in the Dean's absence. As associate dean, Kathy is also engaged with faculty, staff and students. She serves as Chair for the University Academic and Resource Planning Committee.
Prior to holding this position, Kathy was Interim Director of SDSU's School of Exercise and Nutritional Sciences. She joined the SDSU faculty in the Professional Studies and Fine Arts in 1996 and was promoted through the ranks to Professor in the School of Exercise and Nutritional Sciences. Her expertise is in physical education teacher education where she taught courses in pedagogy. Dr. LaMaster is a published author in the topics of physical education, technology, collaboration, and inclusion. Her expertise is widely recognized and she is a Fellow in the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance (AAHPERD) Research Consortium. She has received several grants and has served as the evaluation expert for three Carol M. White Physical Education Program Grants supported by the Federal Government. She has been included in Who's Who Among America's Teachers since 2004 and was recently selected for inclusion in Strathmore's Who's Who for Outstanding Professionals. Prior to her university career Dr. LaMaster taught physical education, coached and was an athletic and physical education administrator in Texas.
Dr. LaMaster holds a Ph.D. in Physical Education Teacher Education from The Ohio State University, and a M.S. and B.S. from Texas Christian University.
