PSFA's hallmark is responding to the needs of our community in order to improve quality of life. We prepare our graduates to become leaders and informed citizens, encouraging them to carry on their quest for knowledge, creative expression and active, healthy living. Our fundraising priorities reflect this focus, as they seek to blur the boundaries between college, community and career:
- Institute for Musical Theatre Research and Performance:
Our innovative Musical Theatre program offers unique academic and performance opportunities for students seeking distinction in musical theatre. Your donations help us prepare emerging artists for careers as performers, directors, composers, lyricists, librettists and teachers. - Downtown Art Gallery:
Set to open in 2008, SDSU's community art gallery will be an integral part of downtown's growing art center. Residing in Bosa Development's Electra condominium complex, adjacent to the Santa Fe Depot, this space will present exhibitions and collaborative programming with community art groups year-round. - Institute for Theatre, Television and Film for Youth:
Our focus in the areas of film, television, and media is on creating original projects; showcasing important works from the past as well as from contemporary filmmakers; and the analysis of media and its impact on youth. Its rich curriculum, diverse performance programs, and original thought-provoking productions, informs audiences and prepares future educators and creative artists. - Center for Strategic Media and Journalism Excellence:
The School of Journalism and Media Studies seeks to establish a new Center for Strategic Media and Journalism Excellence (SMJE) which will position SDSU as a world-class institution for mass communication research, community engagement, and media practices. This fund will further SDSU's ability to qualified leaders in the fields of advertising, journalism, public relations, and public communication. - Hospitality and Tourism Management:
The School of Hospitality and Tourism Management at San Diego State focuses its fundraising on experiential learning. Currently we are focusing on a volunteer and mentorship center that has been anchored by a challenge grant from the Hilton Foundation. Our other focus is on raising funds to allow students to experience industry by attending conferences and trade associations meetings. - Aztec Forensics:
Competitive debate and public speaking are some of the most valuable skills a student can learn during their undergraduate experience, and the School of Communication seeks support for the nationally ranked Aztec Forensics program to recruit talented high school students and to provide scholarships, tournament opportunities and research support. - School of Music and Dance:
The School of Music and Dance is focusing our fundraising efforts on student scholarships and enrichment packages so we are able to attract and retain talented young musicians and dancers. We are also seeking to grow our professional certificate program, the Artist’s Diploma, and enhance our music education, world music, jazz, opera and dance programs through a variety of opportunities, including facilities enhancement, guest artists, and student awards. - Exercise and Nutritional Sciences:
The School of Exercise and Nutritional Sciences seeks support for students at both the graduate and undergraduate level to assist with research opportunities and tuition. - Institute for Public and Urban Affairs:
The School of Public Affairs seeks to strengthen its ties to local government through the Institute of Public and Urban Affairs by focusing our efforts on moving the Institute to downtown San Diego where it will assist students with local government internships, collaborate with local government on research projects and studies, and offer lectures, seminars and courses for in-service students and the general public.
