
Randi McKenzie, M.Ed.

Randi McKenzie received her master’s degree in Education with
an emphasis in physical education from Bowling Green State
University. Her undergraduate work, at Kent State University,
was in health, physical education and psychology. She has
taught university students for over 30 years and has been
highly involved in teaching, coaching and advising. For the
past 11 years, she has been involved in developing San Diego
State University’s Faculty-Student Mentoring Program.
Under her direction, the program has significantly changed
and has developed into a nationally recognized program
(Noel-Levitz, Retention Excellence Award, 2001). She has
presented at numerous national conferences and has received
positive recognition for her work in the mentoring program.
In addition to formerly directing the university’s program,
she is also the Faculty Mentor for the College of Professional
Studies and Fine Arts FSMP. As a faculty member in the
Department of Exercise and Nutritional Sciences, her
responsibilities involve teaching liberal studies students
about teaching physical education to children and mentoring
the department’s graduate teaching assistants.
Randi is an involved faculty member and has served the
university on numerous organizations and committees:
(President’s Community Council on Diversity, the Provost’s
Retention Council, University Senate, Student Grievance
Committee, Student Affairs Committee, adhoc committee on
diversity and equity, mortar board, and faculty fellow in
Maya Hall, etc).
Her hobbies include working with students, racquetball, art,
and theatre. She was a competitive fencer for 25 years and was
ranked second in the nation in women’s sabre fencing. She also
taught and coached archery and was the private instructor to
the governor of Baja California for six years. Her newest hobby
is learning to play the piano—something she has wanted to do
for 50 years.
