The College of Professional Studies and Fine Arts views the San Diego region as its most important teaching tool. Our 7,000 students and 350 faculty members are engaged in the community through in-class service opportunities, public performances and presentations, and unique partnerships that serve our region while providing valuable learning experiences for our students.
Here is a short list of our current community connections:
- Public forums on timely and important issues that provide information on both sides of critical topics are provided by the School of Public Affairs.
- The School of Theatre, Television and Film offers a Theatre for Youth program that uses the dramatic experience to teach children about diverse cultures.
- The School of Music and Dance has partnered with the San Diego Kiwanis Club for over 20 years to present the Symphony in the Park, featuring the SDSU Symphony Orchestra, at the Balboa Park Organ Pavilion. This concert is free to the public.
- The Department of Exercise and Nutritional Sciences promotes active living and healthy eating through many programs including the Adult Fitness Program, which is open to all.
- The School of Art, Design and Art History brings the visual arts and the community together through a critically acclaimed gallery program featuring three public gallery spaces.
- Our ROTC programs in Navy, Army and Air Force enroll students in leadership programs from the many community colleges and other universities within the San Diego area.
- The Camp Able of Coronado through the Hospitality and Tourism Management Program offers an aquatics program to approximately 8,000 disabled and disadvantaged young persons each summer.
